Daryl Hannah Arrested For Protesting Oil-Sands Outside W.H.
Actress and environmental advocate Daryl Hannah was arrested outside the White House today during a protest against the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
energyNOW! associate producer Stephanie Breijo witnessed Hannah’s arrest at the demonstration, which started August 20. The protestors want President Obama to block the pipeline project, which would bring crude from Canada’s oil-sands to oil refineries on the U.S. Gulf coast.
The U.S. State Department said last week the Keystone XL project doesn’t pose any major environmental risks, but the Obama administration has yet to make a final decision on the pipeline.
Hannah, whose movie credits include Blade Runner, Splash and Kill Bill Vol. 1, told energyNOW! in an August 20 interview that the environmental movement needs to engage in “courageous acts of civil disobedience” to stop projects like the Keystone XL pipeline.
