energyTHEN: Three Mile Island

Length 2:25
Created 04.20.11

We look back at this nation's only nuclear accident to date, the partial meltdown of the core at Three Mile Island Unit 2 in 1979. It caused fear and panic among those who lived near the plant in central Pennsylvania. But investigators later found that no radiation had leaked from the plant. Although no one was ever really in danger, the confusion surrounding the accident spawned anti-nuclear sentiment in the U.S., and construction of new plants was halted for decades.
