Philips LED Light Bulb

In 1891 the Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands (NYSE: PHG) began manufacturing carbon-filament lamps, 120 years later the company continues to lead the world in innovative lighting solutions. As part of the LIGHTFAIR® International trade show Philips announced that it will unveil the world's first LED replacement for the 75-watt light bulb.

According to Philips, its EnduraLED A21 17-watt bulb lasts 25 times longer than a 75-watt incandescent bulb while using 80% less energy.

Based on Philips estimation, choosing the EduraLED A21 17-watt instead of the incandescent option could reduce the United States' carbon footprint by 3.25 million tons a year while simultaneously reducing the nation's energy use by 5,220 MW. The EduraLED A21 17-watt is expected to hit U.S. market later this year at a cost of US$40 to US$45.

"We continue to test the boundaries of LED innovation with exciting products that provide energy efficiency, ambiance and extraordinary reliability," said Ed Crawford, General Manager of Lamps for Philips Lighting North America.

He further explained,"Once again we have demonstrated that consumers do not have to wait for quality alternatives to the incandescent or to sacrifice the soft white light they have become accustomed to because LED can deliver all the benefits without compromising quality."
