Wind farm

Oil giant BP (NYSE: BP) through its subsidiary BP Wind Energyannounced that it has broken ground on a 225 MW wind farm just outside of Fort Worth, Texas.

Comprised of 90 Clipper Windpower C-96 2.5 MW wind turbines the Trinity Hills Wind Farm not only represents BP Wind Energy's fourth wind power plant in Texas, but it is also the company's largest.

BP claims it has interests in 13 wind farms and a portfolio that boasts a 1,300 MW generating capacity. Blattner Energy has been awarded the construction contract and expects to bring the wind facility online during the first quarter of 2012.

The electricity Trinity Hills generates will be delivered to Electricity Reliability Council of Texas transmission system to be soldon the wholesale power market.

“I would like to take this opportunity of thanking the landowners, county officials and many others in Archer and Young counties for their cooperation and support as we have moved this project through its development phases, “ said John Graham, president and CEO, BP Wind Energy.

He continued, "This is the second Texas wind farm we have announced in the past month and we are proud to be continuing to invest and build our wind portfolio in the state of Texas."
